Spring has sprung this week on Hilton Head with weather in the mid 70’s. This isn’t to say we might not still have a cold snap but 50 degree weather here is always better than 30’s anywhere else. So what can you do to really enjoy this weather? The idea of multiple Hilton Head Spring Festivals started many years ago when we didn’t have all the wonderful winter snowbirds or vacationers here for a quick getaway we do now. The idea was to showcase the Islands Merchants and Vacation Rental options. These festivals have grown and there is something for everyone to enjoy.
HILTON HEAD SPRING FESTIVALS
First up is the 11th Annual Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival. This event has grown into a weeklong (2/19 – 2/24/2018) celebration of seafood with different events for everyone’s tastes. Many of the events this year sold out but some options were a James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner, Lowcountry Seafood Experience on the Water, Culinary Demonstrations and more. Friday’s Sip & Shop presented by Tanger Outlets lets you enjoy fashion, watch cooking demonstration try light bites along with a souvenir tasting glass. While it is $29 you get a $10 gift card as well.
Hosted by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation presented by Publix the Hilton Head Seafood Festival usually in February is the main fundraiser in memory of David Carmines, who died of cancer. This year the event will be at Historic Honey Horn Plantation from 11 – 5PM and the entrance fee is $8 + food and drink tickets to try yummies from over 25 vendors. Also enjoy local favorite band Deas Guyz, a silent auction and Kids Zone (Free admission to Children 10 and under).
Next up is the Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival. Started 33 years ago as a 3 hour tasting event in a parking lot to help the vacation shoulder season has now grown into a weeklong festival that includes wine dinners, seminars, sip and stroll and Grand Tasting. On Saturday March 10th one of the largest Public tastings on the East Coast takes place along the Harbour Town Yacht Basin from 11AM – 4PM tickets start at $69 giving you the chance to try over 250 wines. (What a perfect Girlfriends Getaway!)
While not having festival in the name nothing is more festive than the 35th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Get set for a Free family friendly event that runs along one side of Pope Avenue turning on Office Park Road and ending at Park Plaza. Yes it is hokey but it allows us to be a small town where locals and visitors alike get out to see each other after winter. Along with floats, bagpipes and dignitaries sometimes the Clydesdales even show up. There are bands in the parade and at area restaurants (playing most of the day and night). It is always held the Sunday prior to March 17th so this year it is March 11 usually starting at 3PM.
Who doesn’t like Wings? Well come to the 22nd annual Hilton Head Wingfest and you will get your fill. Besides trying local restaurants wings there are always great versions from amateur chefs. The party starts Friday night March 24 (5-9PM) with bands and a Laser Light show and then Wingfest is Saturday March 25 from 11AM – 6PM. Come to Shelter Cove Community Park and bring some lawn chairs (but no pets). The entrance fee is $7 (kids 10 and under free) and the wings and other food options are sold separately. Besides food and beer there will be multiple bands, big screen for March Madness watching as well as a Kids Zone.
